Published Street-Level Imagery Taken in Suzu, Ishikawa on Google Street View

Captured the devastated area of 2024 Noto earthquake using our facilities

I am Noriyasu Obushi, a project researcher at Information Somatics Laboratory of RCAST, the University of Tokyo.

I would like to express my deepest sympathies to all those who have been affected by the M7.6 earthquake that hit Noto Peninsula on January 1, 2024.

As I was raised in Suzu City of Ishikawa Prefecture, I have been considering how I can contribute to the people in the affected areas. Since our laboratory owns various 360-degree cameras, I thought that 360-degree video images would be suitable for recording the damage and thereby took photos on the street and published them on Google Street View for academic use and to publicize the damage. We received prior consent from Suzu City to publish the images on Google Street View. Although Google Street View requires geotagging the video, the accuracy of the location information is not sufficient in many areas as we used GPS instead of QZSS as the satellite positioning system (GNSS).

Insta360 Titan was mounted on the roof of of a vehicle to capture the street image
