I vs. Me

Interaction with oneself has been the focus of attention as a topic in various fields, including novels, paintings, films, and games. In order to explore new possibilities for interaction with a virtual self, we propose an adversarial interaction with your past self, called “I vs. Me”.

自分自身とのインタラクションを行うことは、小説、絵画、映画、ゲームなどの多様な文脈で題材にされてきた。仮想的な自己とのインタラクションにおける新たな可能性を探究するため、我々は過去の自己との敵対的なインタラクション体験「I vs. Me」を提案する。

“I vs. Me” is a VR sword fight game. In this game, the player fights with a virtual self who reproduces the player’s past movements from a few tens of seconds ago. However, since the player does not remember the past movements accurately, the opponent’s actions are difficult to predict. As a result, an intense interaction emerges in which the player’s past self and present self attack each other.

I vs. MeはVR上でのチャンバラゲームである。このゲームにおいて、プレイヤーは数十秒前の自分の動きを再現する仮想的な自己と戦う。一方でプレイヤー自身もその動きを正確に記憶していないため、相手の動きは予測が難しい。そのため、過去の自分と現在の自分が互いに攻撃し合う白熱したインタラクションが成立する。

Here is how the process works; the player initially fights with a non-player character (NPC). The player’s movements during this fight are recorded and become the movements of the opponent in the next round. After that, the player’s movements in the current round become the movements of the opponent in the next round.

ゲームは以下のように進行する。プレイヤーはまずノンプレイヤーキャラクター(NPC)と戦う。その際の対戦中のプレイヤーの動きは録画され、次のラウンドにおける対戦相手の動きとなる。以後、現在のラウンドでのプレイヤーの動きが次のラウンドでの対戦相手の動きとなる。
